Steps involved

  • Search for a youtube video in mobile website or copy the link from app.
  • Open it in browser.
  • If it opens mobile website,request the desktop site which opens the desktop version of the YouTube.
  • Play the video.
  • You can now minimize,it will play the video in background.
Note:If the browser opens YouTube app on clicking the link,try clearing the defaults of the app in Settings > Apps > YouTube > Clear defaults
